coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. And it is listed in the wonders of the
natural world. The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef
system, comprises approximately 2900 individual reefs and 900 islands
stretching for 1,616 miles (2,600km) over an area of approximately 344,400
square kilometers. Also tourism is the important economic activity for the region,
generating $1 billion income per year.
