Former Sri Lankan Captain Mahela Jayawardene has
presented his resignation from Test cricket after the upcoming series against
South Africa and Pakistan, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced.
“Mahela Jayawardene has stated that he would like to
retire from Test cricket after the forthcoming Test series against South Africa
and Pakistan,” the SLC said.
The SLC stated that Jayawardene had stated his decision
to retire through a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of SLC
Ashley De Silva.
In his letter, Jayawardene had stated that “It was not an
easy decision to make given that it has been a great privilege and honour
representing my country during the past 18 years, but I believe this is the
right time”.
Jayawadene however will continue to play One Day
Internationals (ODIs) for Sri Lanka.
