WhatsApp has introduced a new web-based chat client that
enables users to now use desktop computers to send messages across to contacts.
The feature will be of much use to those in office, who can now avoid being
distracted by looking into their mobile devices every time it beeps.
“Today, for the first time millions have the ability to use WhatsApp on your web browser,” the company said in its announcement.
The web client is simply an extension of the phone: the web browser mirrors conversations and messages from mobile device, meaning that all messages will continue to remain on the phone.
To connect your web browser to your WhatsApp client, simply open https://web.whatsapp.com in Google Chrome browser. Users will then have to scan the QR code using the messenger platform on the smartphone and its new feature called WhatsApp Web.
“Your phone needs to stay connected to the internet for our web client to work, and please make sure to install the latest version of WhatsApp on your phone. Unfortunately for now, we will not be able to provide web client to our iOS users due to Apple platform limitations,” the note by WhatsApp said.
