The 10 Longest Escalators in the World

Escalators are convenient, and sometimes essential, parts of urban infrastructure. There are a few around the world that are particularly impressive when it comes to length. But what counts as a long escalator?

1. Ploshchad Lenina, Chernyshevskaya, and Admiralteyskaya Metro Stations in Petersburg, Russia. 
Measuring 453 feet (138 meters) long. These deep underground metro stations feature the longest single-span continuous escalators in the world.

2. Kreschatik Metro Station, Kyiv, Ukraine. 

Measuring 432 feet (131.7 meters) long. A deeply buried Soviet-style metro station with a massive single-span escalator ride.


3. Park Pobedy Metro Station, Moscow, Russia. 

Measuring 413 feet (126 meters) long. Takes about three minutes to ride from top to bottom, sitting deep beneath the city.


4. Wheaton Station, Washington D.C. Metro, USA

Measuring 230 feet (70 meters) long. Famous as the longest single-span escalator in the Western Hemisphere, with a vertical rise of 115 feet.


5. Sirkeci Station, Istanbul, Turkey

Once the last stop of the Orient Express, Sirkeci Station features an escalator that's 400 feet (121.9 meters) in length.


6. Rustaveli metro station, Tbilisi, Georgia

Located at Rustaveli Square, this metro station has a 394-foot (120-meter) long escalator.


7. Huangguan Escalator, Chongqing, China

The Huangguan Escalator is one of the highest and longest escalators in the world, at 367 feet (111.8 meters) in length and 173 feet (52.7 meters) of elevation change.


8. Khatai metro station, Baku, Azerbaijan

The deepest station of the Baku Metro has a long escalator to match. Khatai metro station has a 328-foot (99.9-meter) long escalator.



9. Keleti railway station, Budapest, Hungary

The journey continues through Europe. The next stop is Budapest, Hungary. Keleti railway station has an escalator 290 feet (88.3 meters) in length.


10. Náměstí Míru metro station, Prague, Czech Republic

We now travel to this station on Line A of the Prague Metro. The escalator in Náměstí Míru metro station is 285 feet (86.8 meters) long.
