The Ferry MV Thomas Aquinas collided with the cargo vessel on Friday evening on 16/08/2013 at 9:00pm local time (13:00 GMT) near the central city of Cebu, Philippine.  The incident took place around 2km (1.2 miles) from the shore.

At least 55 people have confirmed died and still more than 65 are missing after the ferry collision with a cargo ship. The ferry was carrying 752 passengers, including children and infants, and 118 crew, according to latest coast guard figures. 

The ferry was sailing into the port at Cebu, the Philippine’s second biggest city when it collided with the cargo ship travelling the other way.
