Jiffry's group won the Best Pop Instrumental Album Award for their album Steppin’ Out
It's a
proud moment for Sri Lankans all over the world as bassist Hussain Jiffry takes
home a Grammy gong.
Several
Lankan media outlets trumpeted the news and social media was alight with
Lankans basking in the glow of music's biggest gong for one of their own.
The honour was bestowed upon Jiffry, who is a part of bass
legend Herb Alpert and wife Lani Hall’s quintet, when the group won the Best
Pop Instrumental Album Award for their album Steppin’ Out at 2014 Grammy Awards
according to the latest news.
Hussain
Jiffry is known for his work with well-known names in the international music
scene such as Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick and Yanni.
Jiffry
has also been with Brazilian samba jazz legend Sergio Mendes for many years as
well as, performing with “The Earth Wind and Fire Experience” when they played
live in Colombo, and at the Java jazz festival.
He
graduated from the Musician’s Institute in California in 1989, and while
playing random ensembles, it was his sheer talent that brought many worthwhile
offers to this dedicated bassist.
