Giethoorn is a village located in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Steenwijkerland, about 5 km southwest of Steenwijk. This idyllic village -Giethoorn, Netherlands has no roads, and the only access is by water over the many beautiful canals or on foot over its wooden arch bridges.  You must take a boat to go to different places.

The locals use punters to get around and cars have to remain outside the village. There are 4 miles of canals and farmhouses with thatched roofs dating back to the 18th century. It is known as the "Venice of the North" or "Venice of the Netherlands.
