A 22 years old mother in Brazil has given birth to a baby
boy while on a boat carrying relief supplies to Brazil’s flood hit city of
Linahers.
The birth took place after a disaster relief team was informed
by a villager that a pregnant woman needed to be taken to hospital. When the
boat was taking the pregnant woman to hospital, in the boat she went into
labour, and delivered the baby boy on the water.
The woman was suffering from labour pains the day before
but was cut off from medical care due to the flood waters. Two firefighters and a volunteer reached the
expectant mother by boat.
Over 40 people have died since torrential rain swept
through the south-eastern Brazilian states of Espirito Santo and Minas Gerais. The
floods have left houses and roads destroyed while many buildings have been left
submerged in the deluge. Around 70,000 people have been forced to flee their
homes in what is thought to be the worst to hit the region in 90 years.
