A fire has broken out in Ishraq Al-Madinah Hotel in the
holy city of Madinah, Saudi Arabia on 08 February 2014 Saturday, killed 15 people
and more than 130 people, mostly pilgrims, were injured according to a
statement issued by Madinah Governorate.
Officials did not identify the victims but said around
700 pilgrims were staying at the hotel in Madinah, in western Saudi Arabia, to
perform the Umrah pilgrimage. Authorities evacuated the guests and closed off
the street leading to the hotel, located on Sitteen Street.
The fire broke out in the afternoon and was brought under
control a few hours later, with survivors were transferred to other hotels in
the city.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause
of the fire.
